Need a High-Security Road Blocker? Read This First
Before getting into the nitty-gritty of a hydraulic road blocker, it is worthwhile to know what it is and where it is used.
Hydraulic road blockers are specialized safety equipment for entry points prone to vehicle attack or need high-security requirements.
You can regard the solutions as a shield against vehicle attacks and an instrument to control vehicle access in high-security applications.
It is needless to say that attacks on high-tonnage vehicles often immobilize the vehicles due to damage to the front wheels and the vehicle’s bottom.
SAB TECH is one of the premier road blocker manufacturers in Saudi Arabia. Its best-in-class road blockers protect from hostile vehicle attacks and are effective solutions for populated and official facilities to restrict unwanted intruders or terrorists.
A hydraulic road barrier stops a dead vehicle forcefully trying to access a restricted area. Its capability also includes working with security solutions, like automated barriers, automatic gates, or road bollards, as a second line of defense, regardless of the tonnage or speed of the attacks.
Usually, government buildings, security services departments, military facilities, hotels, hospitals, airports, embassies, checkpoints, high-risk buildings, and stadiums use road blockers as defense solutions.
What Factors to Consider Before Buying a Crash Tested Road Blocker?
Suppose you are looking to invest in a road blocker. In that case, it is a good idea to spend some time studying a few factors before eventually investing in a road blocker to land on the best equipment available in the market.
Here’s what you should know:
Hostile Vehicle Mitigation
Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) describes measures against bomb attack by terrorists on a truck. It is also called Moving Vehicle Threat Protection.
PAS 68
PAS 68 is the first Publicly Available Specification (PAS) for security equipment to protect against vehicle-based terrorist attacks. It describes the criteria, such as testing methodology, acceptable results, and types of testing vehicles, specific types of products must pass when subjected to a single horizontal impact.
IWA-14
International Works Agreement (IWA) 14 covers a wide range of tests and provides a unified standard for different countries. IWA-14 combines testing characteristics earlier followed by the European Union collected in PAS68 and the United States classification under ASTM F2656.
The Differences Between PAS 68 and IWA-14
There are some differences between PAS 68 and IWA-14, which are:
- Vehicle Weight: The vehicle weight used in PAS 68 has to be 7.5 tonnes, but in IWA-14 testing, the vehicle weight should be 7.2 tonnes.
- Vehicle Penetration: In IWA-14, it is measured from the product’s front, not the back. It means that you cannot compare the two tests’ penetration results.
- Debris: In the IWA-14 testing, there is no debris value, unlike in PAS 68.
ASTM F2656
ASTM F2656 originated in the USA and eventually gained recognition in the Middle Eastern countries as a reliable standard for crash impact rating certification. It was initially known as DOS.
Specialized engineering testing companies conduct the ASTM F2656 certification tests on special testing fields.
The certification covers various security aspects, such as vehicle weights and speeds, corresponding to the testing vehicles. The certification criteria also consider the penetration level and the dispersion of debris for anti-ram barrier characteristics in addition to the distance of dispersion of major debris.
Why SAB TECH?
If you consider the types of road blockers to invest in, you can try out SAB TECH’s world-class products. The company is among the top road barriers suppliers in Saudi Arabia and is a pioneer in supplying crash tested road blockers in the country. You can get in touch with the company to know the prevailing road blocker prices.
You can consider buying SABTECH’s RBXM1000CT model. It is a high-security hydraulic road blocker that is crash tested according to the PAS 68 standard.
It remains operational after impact and provides the highest protection level to your facility against vehicle attack threats. A hydraulic power unit powers it with speed within the range of 3 to 5 seconds, and with an EFO system, its speed increases to 1.5 seconds. You can use a manual hand pump to operationalize the road blocker in case of a failure.
The model allows for the integration with card readers, biometric readers, radio control, and license plate recognition with PLC controllers. Moreover, it bears the capability to connect with loop detectors for enhanced safety in addition to traffic lights for controlled movement.
SAB TECH’s Recent Feat
Recently, SAB TECH accomplished a feat of successfully passing a crash test in compliance with the international standards—PAS68 and IWA 14-1 for its High-Security Road Blocker (RB3M1000CT).
The following are the critical details of the test:
- The company conducted the test on 12 November 2020 at 13:27 hours in Muenster of Germany by CTS GmbH.
- The collision happened 20 seconds later when a 7,500 kg truck hit SAB TECH’s road blocker at a speed of 80 km/h and with a 90-degree angle.
- During the collision, the truck collided with a dynamic vehicle. The penetration was -1.0 m, according to IWA and -1.5 m, according to PAS. In both cases, the values are excellent as they are under zero. Such cases are called zero penetration. Besides, there was only one significant debris, falling within 4.6 m from the point of instance.
- The road blocker restrained and immobilized the vehicle immediately, with the cabin tipping over the edge of the equipment while remaining connected to its main chassis.
And, notably, SAB TECH is the first company in the entire Saudi Arabian Kingdom to achieve this feat.
